Residential Care Homes and Day Centres
The clay workshops for care homes based in Dorset are for between 8 and 12 people. The clay is pre rolled and templates are available to cut around. For each workshop we start with a theme, for example fish. Once they have cut out a basic starting shape the possibilities are endless. There are lots of textures and stamps to use and the workshop is very tactile which is ideal for the visually impaired. The most important thing is to have fun and sometimes people have sung as they create or discussed childhood memories such as art classes at school. Following courses with Arts4Dementia and Dementia Friends the clay activities have been tailor made to be dementia friendly. In person workshops are available in Dorset and South Somerset. For the rest of the country takeaway packages have been developed. Additional support online or by phone can be provided to carers to help with the activities.
